What Is Medicare Supplemental Insurance

Medicare Supplemental Insurance is also called Medigap but it can be marketed as supplemental insurance. These plans are provided by private insurers to help pay for expenses that Medicare does not cover.

Every Medigap Plan must follow Federal and state laws for your protection, and Medigap Plans are standardized. For example, every Plan A must include the same core benefits regardless of which insurer offers it. Insurers can choose which of the standardized Medigap Plans to sell, and how much to charge in premiums.
